New Era Dream Builder Project: Shanghai Science and Technology Tour

The Shaping the Future Youth Innovation Development Programme — New Era Dream Builder Project: Innovation and Technology Aspiration Exploration — has successfully concluded. More than just a study tour beyond the classroom, this journey offered students an invaluable opportunity to witness the nation’s innovation and technology development firsthand, while gaining deeper insight into robotics applications and future industry trends.

Over the five-day programme, students visited a wide range of representative innovation and technology institutions, enterprises, universities, and science education venues, including Keenon Robotics, Whale ENJOY AI Practice Base, the Humanoid Robot Qilin Training Ground, SAIC Volkswagen Plant No. 3, Shanghai Baidu Apollo Park, Taijing Group, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Longhua Airport Low-Altitude Exhibition Base, and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Through site visits, expert sharing, technology demonstrations, and interactive experiences, students moved from simply “seeing technology” to truly “understanding technology,” and further to reflecting on how it can be used to solve real-world problems.

In the robotics-focused learning sessions, students explored service robots, humanoid robots, educational robots, collaborative robotic systems, automated manufacturing, and autonomous driving technologies. They learned how robotics is integrated with artificial intelligence, big data, sensor systems, and engineering design across sectors such as food delivery, smart manufacturing, transportation, logistics, and urban management. These real-life examples helped students realise that innovation and technology are not distant concepts, but closely connected to social development, people’s daily lives, and national progress.

The most valuable takeaway from this exchange was not only the growth in knowledge, but also the expansion of students’ perspectives and ways of thinking. Through engaging with experts and industry partners, students began to understand technological development from a broader viewpoint, while also reflecting on their future studies, career aspirations, and roles in an innovation-driven era. Some were especially fascinated by humanoid robot training and teleoperation systems, while others were inspired by autonomous driving experiences and low-altitude economy demonstrations, developing stronger interest in artificial intelligence, aerospace technology, and smart city development.

Beyond professional learning, the tour also helped students strengthen self-discipline, teamwork, and mutual care through shared group experiences. From punctuality and discipline to collaborative learning, reflection, and final presentation preparation, students cultivated responsibility, communication skills, and team spirit at every stage, demonstrating a positive learning attitude and admirable youth potential.

The true meaning of an exchange and study tour lies not simply in visiting places, but in being inspired through firsthand experience, building understanding in real-world settings, and shaping aspirations through meaningful interaction. We hope students will transform what they saw, learned, and felt in Shanghai into lasting motivation to continue exploring innovation and technology, and move forward with broader global vision, stronger technological literacy, and deeper national identity — as they pursue their dreams and help create the future.

Germany-Poland-Czech Republic History and Culture Exchange Tour

In December, a delegation of 28 teachers and students from our school embarked on an enriching eight-day “History and Culture Study Tour to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland.” The journey began in Poland, where the group visited the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Holy Cross Church, and the historic city of Kraków, followed by a solemn visit to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp that prompted deep, philosophical reflections on the painful history of war, hatred, and the value of freedom. Traveling south into the Czech Republic, the study tour enjoyed the breathtaking sights of the UNESCO World Heritage town of Český Krumlov under clear winter skies. In the capital city of Prague, they walked across the iconic Charles Bridge and through the Golden Lane, discovering Bohemian history beyond their textbooks while immersing themselves in the fairy-tale atmosphere of the winter Christmas markets.

During the second half of the journey, the students crossed the border into Dresden, Germany, to admire Raphael’s renowned masterpiece, the Sistine Madonna, at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery). Upon arriving in Berlin, they ascended the massive glass dome of the Reichstag Building to enjoy a spectacular 360-degree night view of the capital, and gathered at a Chinese restaurant for a heartwarming surprise birthday celebration for two Secondary One students. On the final day of the itinerary, the group visited the Berlin Wall (East Side Gallery) and the Brandenburg Gate to hear compelling stories of the confrontation between the US and the USSR during the Cold War. They concluded their academic adventure at the Altes Museum (Old Museum), standing face-to-face with classical Greco-Roman sculptures that often appear in their textbooks, thereby deepening their understanding of the cradle of European civilization. This invaluable overseas learning experience not only concluded on a joyful note with a trivia game on the way to the airport but also successfully instilled in the students a cross-era historical perspective and profound humanitarian empathy.

Beijing Exchange Program on Chinese Traditional Culture and National Identity

“Ten thousand scrolls are no better than ten thousand miles.”The Beijing Traditional Chinese Culture and National Identity Exchange Program has successfully concluded. This tour arranged visits for students to the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace—China’s largest imperial garden— the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, and other sites. These visits enabled students to understand the correlation between traditional Chinese architecture and the Chinese cultural idea of the unity of heaven and humanity. Through personal experience, combined with what they had previously acquired in class, students deepened their understanding of traditional culture and strengthened their pride in Chinese culture.

Additionally, the tour arranged for students to attend the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square. Despite the temperature being minus two degrees Celsius, students arrived at Tiananmen Square at six in the morning to witness the ceremony. During the event, they felt the solemn and dignified atmosphere as the national flag slowly rose.

This exchange tour transformed the philosophical concept of “the unity of heaven and humanity” from books into a tangible feeling discovered from wavering flags and interlocking beams, turning historical narratives into the awe one feels when stepping onto the ancient city walls. It allowed cultural confidence to take root and thrive through first-hand experience and emotional resonance, enabling students to appreciate the grandeur and majesty of Chinese culture, reaffirming the importance of the saying:”Ten thousand scrolls are no better than ten thousand miles.”
