SMART Community Hackathon 2022

Our school students participated in the SMART Community Hackathon 2022 and won the “My Favourite Project – Online Voting” award, as well as exhibited at the “HSBC Hong Kong Community Festival 2022”.

SMART Community Hackathon 2022 is a competition organized by HSBC Hong Kong as part of the HSBC Hong Kong Community Partnership Programme. With the themes of “Future Skills”, “Physical and Mental Health”, and “Green Living”, this year’s competition aims to encourage young people to use innovative technology within their communities.

Following the preliminary round, finalist report and online voting process, our students’ STEAM project titled “HomeFitness,” developed by Chan Chun Yiu Wesley, Fung Ka Hei, Yeung Yuen Ting and Tjhang Choi Ling, has been awarded the “My Favourite Project – Online Voting” award. The purpose of this project is to encourage the elderly and people of all ages to exercise at home and maintain a healthy physical and mental state.

Students displayed their works at the “HSBC Hong Kong Community Festival 2022” held in the pedestrian zone of Chater Road, Central, which attracted many citizens to attend. During the award ceremony, students also shared their work process and difficulties encountered.

Open Data Hackathon 2022

With the active promotion of smart cities throughout the world, the technological innovation industry in various places is becoming increasingly mature, which has resulted in a growing number of young people joining the industry and implementing their innovative ideas. There are also a number of opportunities in the market, which are attracting many young people to enter this field. The Hong Kong Technology Advancement Group (HKtag) has organized the Open Data Hackathon in partnership with the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO), Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, and industry in response to the growing popularity of open data and to encourage public use of data. “Smart Property” is the theme of the Hackathon.

 We are pleased to announce that our students 2F Wang XuYao, 3A Chan Chun Yiu and 3A Fung Ka Hei have won the runner-up award in the secondary school group, as well as the best technical challenge award. Open data from the Hong Kong government Open Data is used by students to display the weather and air pollution index at school, as well as remind students of the campus temperature and physical condition during exercise, by combining STEAM knowledge, cloud tools (Cloud Platform) and geographic information systems (ArcGIS).

 Yip Tsz Ching, a student in Class 5E at our school, participated in the ” Young Talents Nurturing Scheme-Job shadowing & Internship program ” organized by HKtag. Throughout this program, students are given the opportunity to gain an understanding of the ecology and operation of the technology innovation industry at a very early stage, which can greatly assist them in planning for further education and career development.
