Global Exploration

Aims

The purpose of the study tours is to expose our students to a wider range of learning experiences and opportunities in order to broaden their global vision. When studying with young people from various cultures, our students are readying themselves with creativity, communication skills, collaborative skills, discernment, values and citizenship which are key to future success.

Overview

Study tours take students beyond the familiar and the experience is turned into deep learning through reflective assignments and integration with different subjects. Our theme-based and curriculum-based study tours are not simply a chance for language practice; they also offer opportunities for students to get knowledge of culture, history, art, technology, learn about conservation and the university education of other countries.

In December, a delegation of 28 teachers and students from our school embarked on an enriching eight-day “History and Culture Study Tour to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland.” The journey began in Poland, where the group visited the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Holy Cross Church, and the historic city of Kraków, followed by a solemn visit to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp that prompted deep, philosophical reflections on the painful history of war, hatred, and the value of freedom. Traveling south into the Czech Republic, the study tour enjoyed the breathtaking sights of the UNESCO World Heritage town of Český Krumlov under clear winter skies. In the capital city of Prague, they walked across the iconic Charles Bridge and through the Golden Lane, discovering Bohemian history beyond their textbooks while immersing themselves in the fairy-tale atmosphere of the winter Christmas markets.

During the second half of the journey, the students crossed the border into Dresden, Germany, to admire Raphael’s renowned masterpiece, the Sistine Madonna, at the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery). Upon arriving in Berlin, they ascended the massive glass dome of the Reichstag Building to enjoy a spectacular 360-degree night view of the capital, and gathered at a Chinese restaurant for a heartwarming surprise birthday celebration for two Secondary One students. On the final day of the itinerary, the group visited the Berlin Wall (East Side Gallery) and the Brandenburg Gate to hear compelling stories of the confrontation between the US and the USSR during the Cold War. They concluded their academic adventure at the Altes Museum (Old Museum), standing face-to-face with classical Greco-Roman sculptures that often appear in their textbooks, thereby deepening their understanding of the cradle of European civilization. This invaluable overseas learning experience not only concluded on a joyful note with a trivia game on the way to the airport but also successfully instilled in the students a cross-era historical perspective and profound humanitarian empathy.

“Ten thousand scrolls are no better than ten thousand miles.”The Beijing Traditional Chinese Culture and National Identity Exchange Program has successfully concluded. This tour arranged visits for students to the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace—China’s largest imperial garden— the Great Wall, the Temple of Heaven, and other sites. These visits enabled students to understand the correlation between traditional Chinese architecture and the Chinese cultural idea of the unity of heaven and humanity. Through personal experience, combined with what they had previously acquired in class, students deepened their understanding of traditional culture and strengthened their pride in Chinese culture.

Additionally, the tour arranged for students to attend the flag-raising ceremony at Tiananmen Square. Despite the temperature being minus two degrees Celsius, students arrived at Tiananmen Square at six in the morning to witness the ceremony. During the event, they felt the solemn and dignified atmosphere as the national flag slowly rose.

This exchange tour transformed the philosophical concept of “the unity of heaven and humanity” from books into a tangible feeling discovered from wavering flags and interlocking beams, turning historical narratives into the awe one feels when stepping onto the ancient city walls. It allowed cultural confidence to take root and thrive through first-hand experience and emotional resonance, enabling students to appreciate the grandeur and majesty of Chinese culture, reaffirming the importance of the saying:”Ten thousand scrolls are no better than ten thousand miles.”
From December 8 to 12, S.5 students participated in a five-day study tour in Qingdao and Yantai, Shandong Province, gaining a wealth of knowledge.

Visiting the Olympic Sailing Center, the Sailing Museum, Haiyang Oriental Spaceport, and Hisense Company allowed students to learn about the country’s latest developments and achievements, fostering a deeper appreciation for national prosperity.

Additionally, students visited Yantai No. 3 Middle School. This exchange promoted mutual understanding and friendship among teachers and students from both locations.

During the sharing session, teachers of the Subject of Citizenship and Social Development connected the exchange activities with relevant themes in the curriculum, deepening students’ learning experiences. Each student shared their feelings with their group members and teachers, and representatives from each class were invited to the stage to present their observations and insights.

Learning is not just about absorbing knowledge in the classroom; stepping outside the school to experience the world is also a crucial part of education. Throughout the entire study tour, students were actively engaged, and we hope everyone continues to learn through reading and gaining experience in authentic ways.

From 15 to 16 November 2025, our students travelled to Shenzhen, China, to take part in the Shenzhen Maker Faire Technology Learning Tour. This annual international event brought together companies, academic institutions, and innovative teams from around the world. It aimed to give students firsthand experience of global technological exchange, the opportunity to showcase their learning achievements, and inspiration to develop creative ideas.

During the exhibition, our students presented several awards‑winning projects, including “E‑parking,” “Smart Air Guardian System for the Elderly,” and “E‑bin.” These projects applied artificial intelligence technologies and demonstrated the students’ creativity and ability to integrate innovation with practical technology. They also introduced their design ideas to visitors from around the world and exchanged insights with international makers and industry representatives, gaining a deeper understanding of global technological trends.

Through the Shenzhen Maker Faire Technology Learning Tour, students not only showcased their achievements in technology and innovation but also broadened their international horizons, strengthened cross‑cultural communication, and developed teamwork skills. The experience deepened their appreciation of the limitless potential of technological innovation and motivated them to explore and pursue new ideas in their future learning.

To broaden students’ learning horizons, students from Man Kwan Pak Kau College in the international program, together with the volleyball team, visited our sister school—Shenzhen Guangming Senior High School—for an exchange. During the visit, students attended IELTS and IAL Mathematics lessons with peers from mainland China. Meanwhile, the volleyball team played a friendly match with the sister school, which ended in a draw.

In the afternoon, teachers and students from both schools visited a newly opened science museum in Shenzhen and explored cutting-edge technological innovations.

This exchange not only strengthened ties between the two places but also broadened students’ horizons and learning opportunities, making it a particularly meaningful educational journey.

Due to the inquiry from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, we have removed any related class assignments and student list documents from our website.
