“Designing My Learning Journey” — Japan (Nagoya) Self-directed Learning Study Tour 2026

Representatives of our school departed for Nagoya, Japan, to take part in a self-directed learning study tour and training programme. Today, our students attended the tennis events at the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games, including the round-of-16 match featuring Hong Kong tennis player Coleman Wong. Witnessing Hong Kong athletes compete with such determination gave students a firsthand look at the strength and resilience of Hong Kong’s sporting talent.

As part of this study tour, participating students are also required to complete the Boys’ Brigade International Relations Badge Programme, which runs from May to September 2026. Participants are tasked with planning and executing their own self-directed learning activities throughout the trip. After returning to Hong Kong, they will compile their experiences and findings into a report.

In addition to attending the Asian Games in Nagoya, our teachers and students explored local attractions to deepen their understanding of Japanese culture. During the trip, they visited Ghibli Park, Inuyama Castle, Pokémon Center Nagoya, and the Port of Nagoya Public Aquarium. Besides learning about Japan’s anime and manga culture, they also visited Inuyama Castle, whose castle keep is designated a National Treasure of Japan. During the trip, participants also had the opportunity to try on traditional Japanese kimonos and visit local shrines.

On 2/10/2026, our students went to the Asian Games in Nagoya to watch men’s and women’s rugby sevens as well as rhythmic gymnastics. At the venue, they cheered on the Hong Kong rugby sevens teams and witnessed a proud moment as the men’s team won the gold medal and the women’s team secured the bronze.

This invaluable experience gave students a first-hand appreciation of the determination, perseverance, and teamwork demonstrated by Hong Kong athletes. They also watched rhythmic gymnastics for the first time—an event that highlights flexibility, musicality, and artistic expression. Accompanied by music, athletes perform routines on the floor while skillfully handling apparatus such as hoops, balls, clubs, and ribbons.

Through watching different competitions, students gained a deeper understanding of the diversity of sports and broadened their horizons.
